Crew Back Off on Richardson

Jeff Carlisle notes that the Crew do not stand much of a chance to get Gregory Richardson of Joe Public. They had not filed a discovery claim before he scored his hat trick against New England. Since they did not file it first, the best the Crew could hope for is for the claims to be filed on the same day. Competing claims would be prioritized by record. Carlisle then goes on to state the Crew backed off because they would not have a good shot at getting him. This confirms what I had thought when I found out the Crew never filed a claim initially.

The process has been reset until December because of the roster freeze. The Crew still will be lower than other teams due to the Crew’s strong record this year. I guess I don’t know why the Crew did not file a claim with the discovery period winding down and resetting before the freeze, but in the end I guess it would not have mattered.
