Game Day 1 – Grades
Yes, there is a little grade inflation
Hesmer – 7: Saved a PK and got a clean sheet. That is a good day anyway you look at it. He was a calming presence at the back or the defense.
Miglioranzi – 6: Played a very solid left back. He played several diagonal passes that fell just short.
O’Rourke – 6: Settled in well in the center of the defense. He plays with reckless abandon. This can be a problem in the penalty area when any collision is watched more closely, such as the penalty that he was called for yesterday.
Marshall – 8: His performance was dominant in the heart of the defense.
Hejduk – 6: It was another high energy performance from Frankie.
Rogers – 7: He is showing signs of breaking out this year. He made numerous runs into the Toronto defense and was dangerous throughout the game.
Moffat – 8: He scored a goal and saved a goal on the penalty. He also had a header of the crossbar. The man is quickly becoming a fan favorite.
Carroll – 7: He settled the midfield pretty well. His pass sprung Moffat for his goal. The role he played throughout the game became more apparent on second viewing.
Gaven – 6: He played well enough. He got into some dangerous positions, but showed a little softness that makes watching him tough. His pass to Moreno for the second goal was very nice.
Schelotto – 6: He seemed a little off throughout the game, but showed flashes of brilliance. He and Rogers seem to have developed a good understanding. That is a partnership that will be fun to watch.
Moreno – 8: He put in some good work and got stronger as the game went on. The higher grade is for the hours of shooting drills I want to think he did in the off season. That finish was as calm and collected as you would like to see.
Evans – 6: Came on in the 80th minute for Rogers. Nice runs against a tired defense. He looked better than last week.
Iro – NG: On in the 89th for Schelotto. He makes Marshall look small.
Man of the Match – Adam Moffat
