A Sign that San Jose Will Be Bad

April 3, 2008

The San Jose Earthquakes signed Eric Denton. The story also noted that he trialed with LA last year, but was not signed. The same LA that played some of the worst defense in MLS. The memories of his time in Columbus come rushing back. My wife still remembers his unique combination of an awful performance and a rude gesture to the home fans at an Open Cup game against Syracuse almost four years ago. She might have a choice expletive when San Jose comes to town this year.

Actually, the “experts” are saying the Quakes will be tough to break down this year. The one thing the Quakes have going for them is an experienced defense, backed by a great keeper. Denton is a back-up — so Quakes followers aren’t too concerned that this is a sign of weakness.
    We’ll see.

Cannon will have to have a big year. It is true that the Quakes have some solid vets, they will have to step up because it looks like the offense will need a lot of help. I am still thinking it will be a long year on the field. I am still glad the fans got their team back.
