Crew Reserves 1 – Wizards Reserves 1

May 5, 2008

It was blue skies at Obetz yesterday as the Wizards Reserves played the Crew Reserves. Columbus started out with the following lineup:

Goals: KC – Pore (21) and Columbus – Lenhart (43)

No one really stood out. Emmanuel Ekpo played in the first half. He assisted on the Lenhart goal with a nice pinpoint pass. Ekpo still looks a little rusty and needs to mesh with the team, but he shows great promise. Evans did not look bad against reserve competition. He went at defenders. Zayner had some moments. He has some good skill; it is a shame he had to suffer so many injuries. I am still not sure why Lenhart plays so often. His touch is poor and committed several fouls trying to gain position. I will also note Gino Padula was training hard with the trainer, Steve Tashjian. I also did not see Adam Moffat training with the first team.

The only other note was the presence of Saturday’s referee Mark Geiger. It was a strange scene when Danny O’Rourke broke off from first team training for a few seconds to ask Mr. Geiger about the previous night’s penalty call. They agreed to disagree about the play and both went about their business. Mr. Geiger was very accommodating about answering a couple of questions I had about refereeing. It was one of those scenes that happen at the laid back atmosphere of reserve matches and one of the reasons I love coming to these games.

I have added a few more thoughts here.

What were your questions to Mark Geiger (or is that another post)?
