Crew Players in National Team Plans

May 15, 2008

Bob Bradley has named three Crew players to the 33 player pool. Defender Frankie Hejduk, midfielder Eddie Gaven, and forward Robbie Rogers are in the running to play for the Men’s National Team’s upcoming friendlies against England, Spain, and Argentina. Hejduk and Rogers have had very good seasons so far. Gaven’s inclusion is a little perplexing as he has not had the best of seasons. I was really hoping to see Chad Marshall on the list as well; he has had a really good season. The friendlies overlap with a Crew games versus New England, Real Salt Lake, Chivas USA, and San Jose.

Correction: I forgot the England friendly the Wednesday after memorial day. This should not impact the game versus New England.

I hope Hejduk Stays to lose the captain and his leadership on defense would be brutal. These Matches are Friendlies and should be made up of mostly euro-based players in my mind. the only possible reason I could see for Rodgers and Gavin to be on there is give them some national team practice prior to the Olympics.
