U.S. Olympic Team: Rogers In, Hejduk Is an Alternate

July 17, 2008

Robbie Rogers was named to the 18 man U.S. Olympic team today. Frankie Hejduk was named as an alternate. Rogers joins Ekpo on the list of Crew players heading to China. Eddie Gaven has been left out.

The Olympics are not hitting the Crew as hard as first thought (maybe). Eddie Gaven is returning from injury and will be able to fill one of the outside slots vacated by Rogers and Ekpo. I see a player like Brad Evans filling in on the other wing or perhaps rookie Corey Elenio. My only concern is whether Hejduk has to travel with the team as an. That could be a damaging blow to an unsettled Crew defense.
