My Picks for Tonight’s Awards

October 27, 2008

The Crew Awards Ceremony and Casino night is tonight. I thought I would give a quick run though of my picks for some of the awards. It was tough to pick these awards and I left out some top performers, but going with my gut, these are who I thought most deserved it.

  • Glidden Man of the Year – Alejandro Moreno, no one better exemplifies the spirit of Crew this year than Ale.
  • OhioHealth Comeback Player of the Year – Brad Evans, his rookie year was cut short, but he made the most of his chances this year to collect 5 goals and an assist.
  • Sierra Mist Goal of the Year –  Brad Evans, saving the best goal of the season for last, Evans 30 yard strike bobbed and bent, just kissing off the upright and in. I feel bad for Rogers, Gaven, Moreno, and Schelotto who have had some great goals this year.
  • Crew Most Valuable Player – Guillermo Barros Schelotto, MVP of the league.
  • Newcomer of the Year – Brian Carroll, He lets his play speak for itself. Gino Padula is a close second here.
  • Defender of the Year, Coaches Award – Chad Marshall, No one stood taller in than Chad. He should have a MLS defender award soon to put next to this one.
  • Crew Fan of the Year – If I have to pick one… Mike Blankley, I have talked to Mike several times and he goes out of his way to make every fan welcome, even the most introverted ones like myself. His work in the Nordecke was truly… Massive.

Note: With the late Sunday game and a busy day today, I will have my recap and grades out tomorrow probably.
