The End of the Sigi Chapter of Crew History

December 13, 2008

Seattle agreed to send cash and allocation money to the Crew to free Sigi Schmid from any terms remaining in his Columbus contract. This should be the end of the issues between the teams, allowing both to move on an hire their respective new coaches. Seattle will be hiring the former Crew coach any day now and Columbus will schedule a press conference to announce the hiring of Robert Warzycha, the long groomed successor.

I have to give credit to Mark McCullers again. He pressed the issue, forcing Seattle and MLS to come to a financial agreement. The issue has been resolved relatively quickly and now the Crew have a bit of cash for expenses and allocation money to make some moves for next year. I hope to see Chad Marshall return, but if the Crew cannot use that allocation money on him, Brian Bliss and the new coach have some money to find a replacement.
