MLS and the Crew have conspired to make me really not care about this year’s Superdraft. I doubt they had me in mind, but the combination of the elimination of the reserve league, cutting down the roster size, and the Crew’s first pick being at 30 means less is riding on the draft than usual (and not much usually comes out of the draft).
The MLS draft is not the NFL draft. Yes, the Crew selected Steven Lenhart last year, but they also selected George Josten and Ricardo Pierre-Louis, both of which are no longer with the team. The Crew can look outside the league for talent as well. With the Crew having a pretty good first 11; there are not any glaring needs that need to be filled by the draft.
All of this means I really don’t care too much about today’s goings on in St. Louis.
