Closing the “gate”

April 30, 2009

So the Blanco-Marrufo-jersey-toss gate is over. MLS and the USSF wasted no time in clearing Marrufo of wrongdoing. Blanco gives a jersey to a ref after the game (you know… against rules), but won’t be sanctioned. Marrufo gets a nice day off, but then it is right back to work. I would be more mad, but I am having my own Captain Renault moment, I am “shocked” that no one found anything wrong.

The only shocking thing to me is that the USSF acted so quickly. When it comes to the ticketing from U.S. v. Mexico game, they didn’t have much of a clue, but when there is a whiff of impropriety with on of their referees they acted quicker than I do on donut Fridays.
