A Clue In the Mystery of the Late Game Collapse

May 18, 2009

They really are a team that just sits back and tries to counter attack with Landon so I think we could have kept the ball a little better in the second half. We maybe lost our legs a little bit and gave up one of those late goals.

That’s Robbie Rogers talking about yesterday’s game against the Galaxy courtesy of Nick Green. It was warm in Carson yesterday and the Crew did play at noon local time, but I wonder how often the team is losing their legs a little bit. Last year’s team was extremly fit and closed out games strong. Yes, Sigi left for Seattle, but the strength and conditioning coach Steve Tashjian is still in town. I wonder if the coaching staff may be holding back so the team has the legs to handle the increased amount of games with the Champions League. Either way, it is a little troubling to see yet another late game collapse, no matter the reason.
