Can’t Go Back Again

The 2008 Crew Back Together at the White House (AP)

The Crew went to the White House today to be recognized for their outstanding work on and off the field. It looked like the standard team photo-op with President Obama, the gift jersey and little mementoes. President Obama made a little speech about the team’s success. I may watch the video eventually, but I lingered over the photo above. It’s a picture that improbably recaptured the past. `That is all of the 2008 Columbus Crew. Coach Schmid, check, Brad Evans and Ezra Hendrickson, yep. Even the recently traded Pat Noonan made the trip.

That picture above took me back, yes all the way to November 23. The last time that all of these players and coaches wore the Black and Gold. There will be better Crew teams with better players, but I will be hard pressed to see a closer collection of players. The 2008 Columbus Crew will always hold a special meaning for me. Even in the middle of another season, every one of them came together. That magical 2008 season holds a special meaning for them as well.

“There will be better Crew teams with better players, but I will be hard pressed to see a better team.”

Um, you say there will be better Crew teams but you’ll be hard pressed to see a better team? Just not following the logic here – if there will be better teams, wont you be easy pressed to see a better team? Things that make you go hmmm…

Thanks, it made sense in my head at the time. I have reworded it so that it actually makes sense to people other than me.
