Overseas Transfer

July 22, 2009

Mitchell broke the news yesterday that Strength and Fitness coach Steve Tashjian is leaving the Crew to join Everton as their fitness coach. Originally joining the team in 2007, Tashjian was brought on board by Sigi Schmid. It may be easy to overlook the role he has played for the team, but his addition to the staff has been invaluable in keeping the team healthy and fit.

This was a big edge last year as the Crew did not suffer many injuries and were well conditioned for the rigors of a long MLS season. It was obvious that the players had a fitness edge at the end of most games; this is in no small part to Tashjian’s efforts. I saw him working with injured players countless times to bring them back to full health. Highly respected by the players, even though he was very demanding taskmaster. His talents will certainly be missed, but it is great to see him move on to one of the biggest stages in soccer, England. Good luck, Steve.
