Going to the Next Round (Again)

September 29, 2009

Another day, another game against top competition; September has been a busy, but fruitful month. The Crew landed in the MLS playoffs this past weekend by beating Los Angeles; they can move into the knockout rounds of the Champions League tonight win tonight against Saprissa. A win would be doubly valuable, it will make the mid October trip to Puerto Rico meaningless.

The team should be well prepared for tonight’s matchup. Schelotto, Rogers, and Padula are ready to return to action after having the weekend off. Moreno and Moffat will be rested as well after coming off the bench in the win against the Galaxy. This gives Warzycha plenty of options when he runs out the team. I expect to see Moreno and Schelotto up top. Rogers on one wing and possibly Oughton on the other wing, if not in central midfield.

As for the game, Saprissa controlled play as they tried to equalize in their first encounter in San Jose. I would be shocked to see the Crew bunker and cede too much possession to the visitors. I don’t expect to see anything exotic out of Warzycha. This is a much more even matchup than last week against Cruz Azul, allowing the Crew to play their game at home. I fully expect them to grab a goal or two and get through to the next round tonight.

    Tough finish last night.

    Love the new banner. 🙂

@Justin: That was awful. They have a good chance to bounce back against a Seattle team led by a familiar face. I think they will be primed to do well.

Thanks for the compliment on the banner. Big thanks to Sam Fahmi for the photo. I accidentally posted it, but I think it came off better than I realized and your comment is the tipping point. I am keeping it.
